Quilt Preparation

Quilt Top should be squared up and pressed. If the quilt or backing arrives wrinkled, there will be an extra $20 charge for pressing each. If the back is not square, there will be an extra $10 charge for squaring it up.

Quilt and Backing should be clean and free of soil, pet hair and cigarette smoke. Quilts that arrive soiled, covered with pet hair, or smelling of smoke will be returned before quilting.

Trim all loose threads.

Reinforce all seams at edges of quilt with backstitching. If these seams are not reinforced, they might tend to start coming apart as the quilt is mounted on the rollers.  Another way to prevent seams from coming apart at the edges is to stitch a row of stay stitching 1/8" away from the edge around the perimeter of the quilt.

Do Not reinforce the seams in your backing.  Backing seams may be pressed to one side or open.  Do not use selvages.

Batting and Backing should be 8” larger, length and width, than quilt top. Prior to mounting your quilt, I will double-check to make sure that the batting and backing are a sufficient size. If, however, I determine that you have not given me enough extra, I will not mount your quilt and will notify you immediately. Failure to send the appropriate batting and/or backing will delay completion of your quilt.

Binding Fabric
should accompany quilt if you want me to make your binding.  Fabric requirements:

  • ½ yard for perimeter up to 200 linear inches
  • 1 yard for perimeter up to 500 linear inches
  • 1 ½ yards for perimeter up to 800 linear inches
  • All extra fabric will be returned to you.

Hanging Sleeve fabric should accompany quilt. I will need a 9" wide strip of fabric that is as wide as the quilt.

Shipping

Fold your quilt top and backing carefully and place in a plastic bag. Be sure to include your batting if you are supplying the batt. Use a sturdy shipping box. Put all quilting instructions along with your name, address and phone number inside the box. Secure with packing tape. I prefer that you use UPS since the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver a box if I am not at home. I will use UPS to return your quilt. UPS will automatically insure your package for $100. If you want to insure it for more than that, please indicate the amount of insurance desired.
